Der Ritter von Rafenstain
A musical project by Brass Band Bozen Überetsch
With the musical "Der Ritter von Rafenstain," the Brass Band Bozen Überetsch (BBÜ) impressively demonstrated in 2025 that its capabilities extend far beyond traditional concert performances, proving its ability to successfully initiate, sustain, and execute large-scale, complex cultural projects.
Based on the historical novel of the same name by Charles von Rafenstain, the newly composed musical brought a moving story from 14th-century South Tyrol to the stage in the summer of 2025. Set against the unique backdrop of Runkelstein Castle in Bolzano, a major cultural event was born, combining music, acting, history, and emotion at the highest level.
In total, the musical was performed over ten evenings. Around 1,800 spectators experienced the production live, making "Der Ritter von Rafenstain" a highly acclaimed cultural event that resonated far beyond the immediate region.
Promoters & Management
As the organising body, Brass Band Bozen Überetsch assumed overall management and responsibility for the project, from the initial concept through to the successful run of performances. This included, among other things:
- assuming organisational and legal responsibility
- coordinating a large artistic ensemble
- collaborating with composers, cast members, technicians, and external partners
- liaising with the venue, authorities, and funding bodies
- involving numerous dedicated volunteers
The project was driven by volunteers, executed to a professional standard, and supported by a broad network spanning the business, cultural, and public sectors.
Network, Trust, and Impact
Numerous renowned partners and sponsors, along with the support of the Province of South Tyrol, underscore the immense trust placed in the work of the BBÜ. The musical impressively demonstrated how cultural visions become reality when organisational talent, artistic ambition, and community engagement converge.
A Cultural Statement
"Der Ritter von Rafenstain" was more than just a musical production. It was a powerful cultural statement for South Tyrol and lasting proof that Brass Band Bozen Überetsch also excels as a reliable organising body for ambitious, large-scale events.
